Brahmarettes finish 2nd in 27-2A meet WALLIS - East Bernard's girls track team finished a strong second in the District 27- 2A Championships completed Monday at Cougar Stadium on the campus of Brazos High School. Host Brazos took the title with a whopping 247 and the Brahmarettes finished with 166 points. Van Vleck was third with 83 points. Boling was fourth with 63 points, Danbury was fifth with 36 points and Hitchcock was sixth with 15 points. More importantly for East Bernard, several athletes qualified for the Region IV Class 2A Championships in two weeks at Texas State University in San Marcos In individual running events, freshman Camille Mica won the 800-meter run with a 2:29.34. Amanda Walters was second with a 2:34.91. Mica also qualified for regional in the 400-meter dash after finishing second with a 1:02.78. Larissa Wilson finished third in the 100-meter dash with a 13.60 and was third in the 200- meter dash with a 27.50. Elexis Delgado was fourth with a 27.68. Iesha Blackwood finished third in the 100-meter hurdles with a 17.41. Anna Giannetti was sixth with a 19.20. Blackwood finished third in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles with a 48.81 and Megan Vacek was fifth with a 52.40. Christy Acevedo finished second in the 1,600-meter run with a 5:46.94. Kelsey Merritt was third with a 5:50.88 and Kayla Tovar was sixth with a 6:10.92. The East Bernard 400-meter relay team of Florence Wilson, Hillarie Blazek, Wilson and Delgado finished second with a 51.74. The 800-meter relay team of Wilson, Delgado, Haley Dawson and Blazek finished second with a 1:51.09 And the 1,600-meter relay team of Wilson, Blackwood, Mica and Blazek won the race with a 4:15.74. In last Thursday's field events, East Bernard's Courtney Hollinger won the triple jump with a 29-11.75. Shelby Wyse was second with a 28-6 and Kayla New was third with a 28-1.5. Bev Kresta and Tara Hlavinka tied for third in the high jump competition with a 4-0 clearances. Kresta had fewer misses and qualified for regional. Iesha Blackwood finished third in the long jump with a 16-4.5 effort to qualify. Robin Litvik finished third in the discus with a 103-9 throw to qualify. And Anna Giannetti qualified with second in the pole vault by clearing 8-6. In the 3,200-meter run, Brahmarette Christy Acevedo finished second with a 12:55.44 time and Kelsey Merritt was third with a 13:02.54. Kayla Tovar was fourth with a 13:54.97. Brazos' Haleigh Pustka won the race with a 12:05:71. |
