Brahmarettes close in on 27-2A playoff spot WALLIS - East Bernard's softball team moved one step closer in securing the second District 27-2A playoff spot by beating rival Brazos 10-0 Thursday night at Lady Cougar Field. The game was originally scheduled for April 4 but postponed because of rain. The second place Brahmarettes improved to 8-2 in the district standings EB played at Van Vleck, who was tied for third with Boling, Friday night. If the Brahmarettes won they would clinch the playoff spot. "I'm always concerned," said EB coach Amy Bush. "I want us to be playing better every single game." The Brahmarettes host rival Boling on Tuesday in the district finale The Lady Bulldogs beat Yes College Prep 18-1 in a make up game on Thursday and hosted Brazos yesterday afternoon. Boling was 6-4 and Van Vleck was 7-4. Danbury clinched the district title after sweeping the Wizards by 20-0 and 18--0 scores on Tuesday to improve to 10-0. EB pitcher Courtney Repka pitched a no-hitter in the six inning game and struck out 12. Only one Brazos runner reached base and that was in the third inning. Jessica Sliva walked and was erased on a fielder's choice ground ball by Morgan Supak. Hannah Emmons then grounded out and Morris struck out to end the inning. EB totaled nine hits in the game and pinch hitter Anna Giannetti was two for two with two RBIs. "We're hitting the ball better," said Bush. Repka was two for three with a double and a triple. Miculka then scored when a ground ball by Cameron Kieler was misplayed. Kieler made it to third and then scored on a ground ball by Paula Lopez. Brittney Wilcox walked but was caught stealing. Laura Kubes singled Anna Giannetti reached on an and error. Kubes scored after Liz Reyes reached on an error. The Brahmarettes exploded for six runs in the second to go up 9-0. Wasek led off with a walk and made it to third on a double by Repka. Kieler reached on an error and Wasek scored. Wilcox reached on a bunt single and Miculka scored. Wilcox stole second and later scored on a ground ball by Kubes. Giannetti reached on a fielders' choice ground ball as Wilcox was tagged out at the plate. Reyes reached on a single. Dawson followed with a tworun triple and was thrown out at the plate. EB made it 10-0 in the sixth. Wasek was hit by a pitch and went to second on an error. Repka then walked and Wasek was forced out at third on a ground ball by Kieler. Hollinger then singled home Miculka. |
