New science and technology have redefined what people should expect from their airconditioning system and the Roberson family has the skills and products to remake your home environment.

Ray Roberson and his wife, Renee, started Roberson Air Conditioning and Refrigeration in 1991 and over the years they've been joined by their sons Michael, Joe and Jacob in the business, which is now a family tradition.

"I started in air conditioning in 1983," Ray said. "My father was in air conditioning, I'm in it and my sons are now doing it. They probably started helping me when they got about 10 years old."

The company specializes in installing new systems as well as repairing existing systems for residential and light commercial. While trained to work on all systems, Roberson recently added what he considers one of the best, Maytag, which features a 12-year parts and labor warranty. They also have been installing Tempstar systems since 1991.

"We're always looking for new technology," Mike Roberson said. "Now the idea is to look at overall indoor air quality and not just cooling. That combines both temperature and humidity control."

The business is licensed by Ray with all three of his sons certified. And while they are required to attend eight hours of training each year to maintain their certificates, that's not enough for the Robersons.

"We take a class at least once a month to keep up with new developments and technology," Mike said.

Ray added, "We want to offer our customers the best possible service. The best advertising in the world is word of mouth and the only way you can get that is by satisfying each and every customer."

While operating regular hours at their store front location - 200 E. Milam Street, at the Rusk Street intersection - one or more of the family members is available for emergency calls.

"Like with other large appliances, they only seem to break down at night or on weekends," Ray said. "So we're available for emergency service after 5 p.m. and on weekends."

Those family members not working weekends can frequently be found pursuing their other favorite activity, Christian Motorcycle Ministry.

As a business, Roberson Air Conditioning has been a member of the Better Business Bureau since 1999 and is a member of the Wharton Chamber of Commerce.

While they will take on any job, they take care of their hometown first.

"We do jobs all over Wharton County," Ray said. "But this is our hometown. The Wharton Chamber promotes shopping here first. Our philosophy is service to Wharton first."
