Gerald Schmit

Gerald Duane Schmit, 71, of Wharton, died April 2, 2008 at Gulf Coast Medical Center following a brief illness.

He was the son of the late John Henry Schmit and Emma Margarite Nelson Schmit.

Mr. Schmit was born and reared in the Sioux Falls, N.D., area where he attended school. He moved to the Wharton area in 2005. He was a former resident of Maple Groove, Minn.

Survivors include daughters, Deborah Hallman and husband John of Willis, Dana Sparkman and husband T.J. Jr. of Wharton, Denise Spar and husband Timothy of Maple Groove, Minn., Dori Creekmore and husband Robert of Hamilton, Mo., Jerry Schmit of Mora, Mon., and James Schmit and wife Shannon of Ft. Knox, Ken.; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous siblings.
