WCJC rodeo teams finish in top four at Region CALDWELL - WCJC's men's and women's rodeo teams finished third and fourth respectively at last weekend's Texas A&M Southern Region competition held at the Caldwell Fairgrounds. Northeast Texas Community College won the men's division with 690 points. Sam Houston State University was second with 590 points and WCJC totaled up 565 points. The men's team is fourth in the regional standings with 2,591 1/2points. NETCC is on top with 3,154 points, Sam Houston is second with 2,904 points and Panola is third with 2, 678 1/2 points. Sam Houston won the women's title with 380 points, Mc- Neese State University was second with 260 points, A&M was third with 245 points and WCJC finished with only 45 points The women's team is third in the regional standings with 1,109 points and A&M is second with 2,125. WCJC cowboy Judson Nowotny finished second at A&M in All-Around with 180 points. John Kuecelhan from NETXCC took first with 235 points. Nowotny won the tie down calf roping event with a 18.9 second time. He was seventh as a team roping header with a 33.2 second time. In saddle bronc riding, Trey Broussard finished second in saddle bronc riding with 135 points. Lucas Butler from Panola won the event with 146 points. Broussard is third in the region with 501 points. Joshua Byerley finished sixth in bareback riding with 69 points. He's ninth in the region with 60 points. Cameron Bland took second in bull riding with 149 points and Kevin Ventura was sixth with 75 points. Bland is sixth in the region with 235 points. Jarrett Gutierrez finished second in team roping header with a 14.2 second time. Rudy Austin was fifth with a 17.2 second time. In barrel racing, WCJC cowgirl Macie Haferkamp finished fifth with a 34.78 average. Casey Cox didn't compete in the event but she's fourth in the region with a 34.78 average. |
