Dateline Wharton WHS prom dresses Are you looking for something to do with your used prom dresses? Why not donate them to the Wharton High School's prom dress drive. Donations of dresses, shoes, hand bags and jewelry can be dropped off in the front office of the high school up until April 18. For any questions, please contact Brooke Domel, 532-6800. Spay/Neuter assistance The Matagorda County SPCA has a program to help people who can't afford the cost of spay/neuter surgery for their dogs/cats. The program includes Wharton, Jackson, Matagorda and the southern part of Colorado County. Please call the SPCA at 979-323-8787 for information about the program or for an application. "If you want to help us out with this effort to get dogs/ cats sterilized, please give us a call." Faith Academy fundraiser Faith Christian Academy is currently conducting its Spring Candle Fundraiser. They are offering 10 spring scents and 3 sizes from which to choose. Dawson open house The Dawson Elementary School Open House will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 3. The public is invited to attend. River Road 4-H The River Road 4-H will hold their monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 3 at the Extension Office in Wharton. All members are asked to make every effort to attend. First Baptist of Glen Flora The First Baptist Church of Glen Flora will hold a first pre-anniversary celebration for the church pastor and his wife, Rev. and Sis. Gillis at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 4. Rev. Jimmie Wright of the Mount Olive Baptist Church in Mackay will be the guest speaker. A first anniversary celebration will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 6. Rev. A.C. Gardnar of Sand Ridge Baptist Church will be the speaker. The public is invited to attend both activities. BVFD Ladies Auxiliary First Annual Boling Ladies Auxiliary will hold its first ever fundraising yard sale on Saturday, April 5. The multi-family sale will be held from 7 p.m. until sold out at the Boling Fire station. In addition to the merchandise, drinks and snacks will also be on sale. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the BVFD Ladies Auxiliary. Panhellenic sorority If you are a college-bound female and are interested in becoming a member of a university sorority, please join the Gulf Coast Panhellenic for their second annual Sorority Workshop at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 5. The workshop will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Wharton, 1717 Pioneer St. This free event will include an educational forum on the most frequently asked questions about the sorority membership and the recruitment process. Enchilada Fundraiser An Enchilada Fundraiser to benfit Anthony Perez Jr.'s Missionary Trip to Tokyo is set for noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 6 at the youth building of the First Baptist Church of Wharton. Dine-in and carry out will be available and a $6 donation is requested for the meal. Pastor's Aid Day Pastor's Aid Day will be observed for Pastor E.G. Williams at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 6 at Jerusalem Baptist Church in the Spanish Camp Community. Pastor Willie Johnson accompanied by Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Brookshire will be the guest speaker. The public is invited to attend. SPOT meeting The Wharton County SPOT (Stray Pet Outreach Team) committee will be meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, April 7, at the County Courthouse Annex in Wharton. Pre-K, K pre-registration The Wharton Independent School District will hold pre-registration for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten beginning April 7 and running through May 29. Pre-registration packages may be picked up between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Hopper Elementary School campus. Bingo for Seniors The Wharton County Junior College Senior Citizen Program will be offering "Bingo for Seniors" from 2-3 p.m. on Monday, April 7. Play bingo with other seniors, ages 60 and older, with prizes and refreshments furnished by Angels Care Home Health. The WCJC Senior Center is located at 911 Boling Hwy. If you are 60 years of age or older you are invited to attend. Comfort Wood DAR The Comfort Wood Chapter, DAR meeting will be Thursday, April 10 at 2 p.m. at the Wharton County Library. Mr. William Loocke will present the program. Guests are welcome. The Traveling Lady Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sinatra and Wanda White will present Horton Foote's The Traveling Lady Friday through Sunday, April 11-20, at the Plaza Theatre on the Square in Wharton. Fried catfish dinner First Baptist Church, 9719 Beadle Street, in Lane City will hold a Fried Catfish Dinner with season potatoes, cole slaw, beans and cake from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, April 12. Racers For Life Racers For Life will be hosting a BBQ Chicken Plate Fundraiser on Saturday, April 12 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Plates are $7.00 for a half chicken, beans and buttered potatoes along with condiments and trimmings. There will be a silent auction featuring wonderful items for all ladies to enjoy. The Wharton Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 4507 will hold a Turkey Shoot fundraiser starting at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 13 at Joe's Place (Macek's), located on County Road 138 in Wharton.
