East Bernard wins district opener over Van Vleck VAN VLECK - East Bernard's baseball team scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning to rally past Van Vleck 10-7 Monday night. The District 27-2A opener was originally scheduled for last Tuesday but was postponed because of rain. The Brahmas had to put the win behind them quickly as they hosted Hitchcock last night. Hitchcock dropped it's opener to Danbury 5-3 last Tuesday. The 1-0 Panthers played Brazos. The Cougars beat Boling 8-5 in Newgulf last week. The Bulldogs played the Leopards last night. East Bernard visits Boling on Friday for a 7 p.m. contest. The Brahmas beat the Bulldogs 6-5 three weeks ago at the Stanley-Krist Tournament in Flatonia. Van Vleck erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the second to take an early lead EB picked up three runs in the third to make it 7-3. Zach Rivera led off with a walk and Matt Stelzel followed with a single. After a pop out, Clinton Graves delivered a two-run double. Graves moved to third on the overthrow at home. Anthony Cruz followed with a walk. Graves then scored on a wild pitch. In the fifth Stelzel led off with a single. After another pop out, Graves walked and Anthony Cruz followed with a double, scoring Stelzel. However, Graves was thrown out attempting to take third base. In the sixth Orsak led off with a double. Nick Srubar came on to courtesy run for Orsak. Jacob Hudman followed with a wild pitch strike out and advanced to first while Srubar advanced to third. Cameron Mazoch came on to courtesy run for Hudman. Srubar then scored on Chris Plunkett's sacrifice fly. After a pop out, Stelzel delivered a single moving Mazoch to second. Aaron Alexander followed with a single that scored Mazoch. Clinton Graves then followed with a single, scoring Stelzel. Cruz followed with another single, scoring Alexander. Luis Roldan hit a sharp ground ball misplayed by the third baseman, scoring Ricky Simpson who had come on to run for Graves. Hudman had a single in the seventh but was thrown out trying to stretch an outfield error to third base. Brahma starter Cameron Orsak settled in after the second and held the Leopards at bay, only giving up one single after the second. He struck out eight for the game. 27-2A Standings
