Owens, Jaquez to compete at state powerlifting meet

Wharton seniors Chris Owens and Erich Jaquez head to Abilene on Friday to compete in Saturday's Class 3A Texas High School Powerlifting Association's State Championships.

Competition starts at 9 a.m. at the Taylor County Expo Center.

Owens, won the Region IV 375- pound with a 1,505-pound total.

Jaquez won the 132-pound class at regional with a 1,385-pound total.

East Bernard's Gabe Segrest will be an alternate in the 181-pound class.

El Campo will also be represented by Mark Dominguez in the Class 4A division.

Louise will be represented by senior C.J. Clements in the Class A division, in the 148-pound weight class.

His best total effort is 1,155 pounds.
