EB softballers prevail over Boling in continuation game

BOLING - It took East Bernard's softball team only 10 minutes to complete their postponed District 27-2A softball game against Boling Monday afternoon.
The game was started last Tuesday and was halted with the scored tied at 1-1 because of a heavy rain shower that made the field unplayable.
The game resumed with two outs in the top of the eighth with Repka in the batter's box.
She hit a ground ball that was misplayed. The errant throw scooted down the first base line and Repka went all the way to third.

Lopez then struck out to end the inning.
The bottom half started when EB catcher Liz Reyes snagged a foul ball in back of her on a bunt attempt by Beth Llanas.
Repka then struck out Kelsey Stolle.
Casey Ivy then spoiled Repka's no hitter with a single up the middle.
Repka then struck out pinch hitter Lindsay Kumage to end the game. It was her 20th punch out of the contest.
East Bernard coach Amy Bush said she was hoping for a quick ending.
"That was something I preached to the girls that we had to come out and make a statement," said Bush. "I expected to win quick. The kids are doing a better job of supporting Repka on the mound."
Boling coach Tom Brunell credited Repka for her performance
"Their pitcher Repka is very good and we can't afford to make mistakes," said the coach.
"The girls played very hard. I'm proud of them and they have nothing to hang their heads about."
As far as they rivalry aspect Bush said it's a bigger one for Boling.
"Everybody wants to beat us and that's what makes it fun."
As far as Reyes catch on the foul ball, Bush said it was a good play.
"She is fabulous player who is fi- nally starting to stand out a little bit," said Bush.
She started the season playing third.
The teams had to put the game behind them as the 4-1 Brahmarettes hosted Danbury, who owned a 4-0 record, Tuesday night.
"It's done and we have to get ready for the rest of the week," said Bush.
Boling was 4-1 before playing 2-3 Van Vleck.
The Lady Bulldogs have yet to play Danbury after the first game was rained out. They'll play a doubleheader next Tuesday in Danbury.
Brazos was 2-4 before playing winless Yes College Prep.
Boling's pitcher Alyssa Ferell gave up six hits in the game and struck out seven.
The Brahmarettes squandered several scoring opportunities earlier in the game.
Cameron Kieler led of the top of the seventh with a single and Brittney Wilcox followed with a hit.
After Laura Kubes stuck out, Kieler and Wilcox moved up on a grounder to first by Trisha Polak.
With the wind blowing in at 30 miles per hour, a fly ball deep to right by Liz Reyes was caught.
Boling got a runner to second in the bottom of the inning.
Katie Womack reached on a fielding error and went to second on a wild pitch.
Repka struck out the next two batters and got Stephanie Rachunek to ground out.
Boling went up 1-0 in the second inning, taking advantage of a fielding error.
Ferell struck out but reached first on a passed ball.
She went to second on a throwing error. She went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground ball by Stephanie Rachunek.
Repka struck out the next batter and got Kelsey Stolle on a ground ball.
Ferell retired the next four batters before Haley Dawson walked with one out in the fourth.
She went to second on a grounder to first by Samantha Wasek. Repka then flied out to end the inning. Repka struck out the side in the bottom half.
East Bernard threatened again in the fifth. Kieler singled with one out and Wilcox followed with a base hit. They moved up on a throwing error. Ferell struck out Kubes and got Polak on a ground ball.
Repka struck out the side in the bottom of the inning again.
The Brahmarettes then tied the score in the sixth.
Reyes led off with a double and she went to third on a grounder to first by Dawson.
Wasek reached on a bunt single and Reyes scored on a grounder by Repka. Lopez then grounded out to end the inning.
Repka struck out the side again in the bottom of the inning.
In other district action from last week, Danbury beat Brazos 10-0.
