Wharton suffers third straight district loss

      Wharton's baseball team lost its third straight District 24-3A game after dropping a 6-2 decision to rival Needville Thursday night at Tiger Field. The Tigers fell to Columbus 6-5 in a make up game played Wednesday on the road.

Rain halts EB, Boling softball game
27-2A contest concludes at 4 p.m. Monday

      BOLING - Boling and East Bernard's softball teams will have to wait until Monday afternoon to complete their District 27-2A game. The contest started on Tuesday afternoon but was suspended due to rain with the score tied at 1-1 in the top of the eighth frame.

Lady Tigers drop two 24-3A softball games

      Needville's softball team needed only three innings and 50 minutes to upend Wharton 15-0 Thursday night at Syndney Johnston Field. The Lady Jays took advantage of eight errors in the top of the first to explode for nine runs Needville needed only three hits.

Bulldogs drop 27-2A opener
      NEWGULF - Boling's baseball team dropped a 8-5 decision to Brazos in Tuesday District 27-2A opener at Bulldog Field. East Bernard's baseball team didn't get to play it's opener against Van Vleck Tuesday because of Monday's heavy rain showers that moved across Matagorda.

Pioneers split doubleheader against Gators

      HOUSTON - WCJC's baseball team split Thursday's doubleheader with San Jacinto College. The Pioneers won the first game 7-3 and the Gators won the second 13-3. San Jac won Wednesday's opening game of the series 18-8 at Tiger Field.

San Jac wins home run derby 18-8

      San Jacinto College not only won a home run derby but the Ravens took a 18-8 decision from Wharton County Junior College Wednesday afternoon at Tiger Field. With a north wind gusting to 30 miles per hour, the Gators crushed four home runs and the Pioneers had two.

Cardinals rally past Tigers in 7th inning, 6-5

      COLUMBUS - Columbus scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to upend Wharton 6-5 Wednesday night in District 24-3A baseball action at Cardinal Field. The game, originally set for Tuesday, was postponed because of rain.

      AUSTIN - Turkey hunters should get plenty of calling action this spring, based on field reports of an abundance of Rio Grande gobblers observed by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department biologists.
