Area softball teams resume district play
      Wharton's softball team resumed it's District 24-3A schedule on Friday with a road game against Columbia. The Lady Tigers beat Royal 16-0 in Monday's district opener and the Lady Necks beat Stafford 8-0 on Tuesday. Sweeny beat Needville 6-4 on Monday and played Sealy last night. The Lady Tigers ...

Rains postpone Thursday games in area baseball tournaments
      Thursday's rains put a dampner on the Wharton, Boling and East Bernard baseball teams in tournament play. The Tigers' game against Houston Westbury in the Jersey Village Tournament on Thursday was canceled because of rain. Wharton played Pasadena Sam Rayburn and Westbury on Friday.

Thompson, Kirschke selected to District 34-3A cage teams
      STAFFORD - Wharton's Otis Thompson and Jordan Kirschke were Wharton's lone players on the All-District 24-3A boys basketball team selected last month at Stafford High School. The teams couldn't be released until Royal, Sweeny and Stafford were eliminated from the playoffs.

      HITCHCOCK - Three Boling and two East Bernard players were placed on the All-District 27-2A Girls Basketball teams selected last month at Hitchcock High School. Boling Junior Ebony Ashley earn first team honors and Stephanie Rachunek and Jessica Moore were second team selections.

Hayes earns 1st team honors
      VAN VLECK - Boling freshman Dennis Hemphill was selected the Newcomer-of-the-Year on the All-District 27-2A Basketball team chosen last month at Van Vleck High School. Hemphill averaged 16.2 points for the Bulldogs this season.

      GANADO - The East Bernard boys track team finished a strong third with 86 points at lastt Saturday's Indian Relays held at Ganado High School. Brazos totaled 123 points to take meet championship and Class 4A El Campo was second with 101 points.

      Area youth between the ages of seven and 13-years of age and not partipating in junior high track and field may join the Wharton Wave spring and summer track program.

Correction
      In Wednesday's Journal- Spectator it was reported that Ralph Salazar finished fifth in the 3,200-meter run at last Saturday's Roughneck Relays. It was Ryan Salazar who ran the race. On the Feb. 27 issue, Ryan Salazar ran the same race and not Bryan.
