Tigers finish 3rd in own track meet

Wharton's boys track team finished third in Saturday's Tiger Relays held at Tiger Stadium.

Sealy athletes totaled 156 points to take the team championship.

Sweeny was second with 129 points, Wharton was third with 112 points, Royal was fourth with 85 points, Sealy's B team was fifth with 83 points and Boling was sixth with 32 points.

For Wharton in field events, Dustin Lewis won the high jump competition with a 5-10 clearance of the bar.

Chris Owens finished fourth in the shot put with a 42-6 toss and Raymond Felder finished second in the discus with a 116-6 throw.

Chris Taylor finished second in the triple jump with a 42-9 effort.

Louis Byars finished second in the long jump with a 18-8 attempt and Elijah Richardson was sixth with a 17-9 effort.

In individual running events, LaDerrick Smith finished sixth in the 100- meter dash with a 12.78 time. Shelly Lewis finished sixth in the 200-meter dash with a 24.18.

Bryan Salazar finished fourth in the 1,600-meter run with a 6:03.12.

Lloyd Grissom finished third in the 3,200-meter run with a 13:28.84 and Sam Cantu was fifth with a 17:17.74

Chris Taylor won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles with a 41.15 time.

The Wharton 400-meter relay team of Taylor, Rodney Ray, Dustin Lewis and Kevin Turner finished fourth with a 45.31.

The 800-meter relay team of Ray, Lewis, Jonavan Jones and Smith finished third with a 1:38.31.

For Boling, B.W. McLeod won the 100-meter dash with a 11.28 timing. Quincey Martin finished fourth with a 11.84.

McLeod finished fourth in the 200- meter dash with a 23.06.

Bulldog Brent Stidevent won the 800-meter run with a 2:11.16.

Boling's 800-meter relay team finished second with a 1:43.34.

Wharton travels to West Columbia this Saturday to compete in the Roughneck Relays. Field events start at 9 a.m. and running finals crank up a 1 p.m.
