WHS Tennis team prevails over Foster in dual matches

Wharton's tennis team took 10 of 19 matches from Foster in Saturday's dual competition at the WCJC Kelly Tennis Center.

Foster had beat Wharton 13-6 in dual matches in January.

"This was a huge win for us," said Wharton coach Roben Eller.

"This win gives us some momentum going into regional tournament."

The Texas Tennis Association regional team tennis tournament is set for Friday and Saturday in Katy.

In boys singles matches, Ryan Mc- Micken won 6-2, 6-0. Ethan Massey won 8-6 and Patrick Tulley won on a default.

Sylvester Mayfield lost 6-2, 7-5; Ric Doestch lost 6-1, 6-2; Chris Feyen lost 6-1, 6-2; Calvin Boehm lost 6-2, 6-1 and Manesh Perera lost 6-2, 6-0.

In girls singles matches, Ashley Aaronson won 7-6, 2-6 (10-8); Christie Viktorin won 3-6, 6-4 (10-2); Jessica Kainer won 6-1, 6-3; Kim Janik won 6-0, 7-6; Paige Bahnsen lost 6-3, 6-4; Paige Mata won 8-1; Megan Lesak won 8-3; and Sarah Gubbels lost 8-2.

In boys doubles matches, McMicken and Feyen won 9-7. Mayfield and Doetsch lost 9-8; Perera and Tulley lost 8-4 and Kubicek and Massey lost 8-6.

In girls doubles matches, Aaronson and Viktorin lost 8-3. Kainer and Bahnsen won 8-5 and Gubbells and Janish won 8-2.

In mixed doubles matches, Boehm and Kocian won 8-3 and Massey and Lesak won 8-4.
