Kids in the news at Boling ISD's Newgulf Elementary School

H-E-B Food Store's representatives and Buddy have made visits to second graders at Newgulf Elementary School giving them information on how to live healthy lives.
Students learn about healthy eating

The Wharton H-E-B Food Store and Newgulf Elementary School have partnered together to teach second graders how to Be a Healthy Buddy.

Throughout the year H-EB representatives have visited the second grade students during their P.E. classes, providing them with tools they can use toward becoming healthier.

One the first visit, H-E-B representatives along with Buddy the program mascot - a large paper bag filled with healthy foods - discussed with students what would be healthy snacks.

Students were given reusable green tote bags with nutritional snacks like apples, oranges, carrots and bottled water to take home.

On another visit, H-EB representatives and Buddy discussed how exercise helps your body stay healthy. Students, along with Buddy, did jumping jacks, push ups and jogging in place.

Students were given journals and pedometers to record their total steps each day for two weeks.

Students will also participate in an essay writing contest about "Why it is important to eat healthy." Winning essays will be posted in the Wharton H-E-B.

Students have been learning about diabetes in P.E. and H-E-B representatives and Buddy gave each second grade student a book about juvenile diabetes entitled Little Drop and the Healing place.
