Tigers win season opener over Waltrip

      HOUSTON - Wharton's baseball team exploded for six runs in the fourth and five in the sixth to come away with a 11-0 season opener win over Waltrip Tuesday night at Delmar Field. Wharton had a tough start as six of the first nine players struck out.

Lady Tigers dealt 10-0 loss by Bellville

      BELLVILLE - Wharton's softball team ran into some stiff competition against Bellville Tuesday night. The Lady Tigers dropped a 10-0 decision to the Brahmanettes and slipped to 4-3 on the season.

Dowell steps down as Louise coach, AD

      LOUISE - Louise Athletic Director and head football Rodney Dowell tendered his resignation on Tuesday. He should remain with the district through his contract period, which ends in June. "Unless I find an AD job," he said.

Boling softballers win 4-1
      BOLING - Boling's softball team beat Palacios 4-1 Tuesday afternoon at Lady Bulldog Field to improve to 2-4 on the season. The Lady Bulldogs were scheudled to play three games at the Rice Consolidated Invitational Tournament but it was canceled because of wet grounds.

Bulldogs drop season opener
      NEWGULF - Sealy picked up a run in the top of the sixth inning to beat Boling 2-1 in Tuesday's season opener at Bulldog Field. Sealy jumped out to a 1-0 lead in fourth and Boling tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Dustin Ortiz singled home Koby Sanchez; who reached on a base hit.

      EAST BERNARD - Despite beating Industrial 4-0 and improving to 3-0 on the season, EB softball coach Amy Bush was not pleased with her team's showing Tuesday night at Koym Field. "I feel like we just didn't play very well tonight," said Bush.

Tiger Relays set today
      After a four-year absence, the Tiger Relays return to Tiger Stadium this motning. The statdim track was resurfaced last May and more than $300,000 was spent on the project. Field events crank up at 9 a.m. with the 3,200-meter run scheduled for 10:30 a.m.

No changes in UIL volleyball realignment for this season
      AUSTIN - The University Interscholastic League released it's biennial volleyball relignment on Friday. There was no change from the basketball and football alignments involving District 26-3A, 27-2A and 29-2A when it was released on Feb. 1.
