Boling notches 15-0 win over Louise
By MIKE KONVICKA mkonvicka@journal-spectator.com

BOLING - Boling's softball team needed only four innings to run-rule Wharton County rival Louise 15-0 Friday afternoon at Lady Bulldog Field.

This was Louise's first game at the varsity level and the Lady Hornettes inexperience showed.

The win was Boling's first after the Lady Bulldogs lost three games in the Captiol Classic in West Columbia on Thursday.

"I'm proud of them," said Boling first year coach Tom Burnell.

"Hopefully we'll be going in the right direction but we have a lot of things to work on."

The Lady Bulldogs then lost to Foster 11-0 in the Capitol Classic on Saturday.

Boling jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning against Louise by taking advantage of six walks and two fielding errors.

Ashton Kalina, Kelsey Stolle, Whitney Rachunek, Stephanie Rachunek, Beth Llanas and Katie Womack all scored.

Boling's pitcher Alyssa Ferrell went three inning and struck out six.

The Lady Bulldogs exploded for seven runs in the second inning to go up 13-0.

Stephanie Rachunek reached on an error with one out but was erased on a fielder's choice ground ball by Beth Llanas.

After Womack walked to load the bases, Lindsey Kumaga delivered a two-run double. Caprice Lorezen reached on an error. Kalina then reached on a miscue and Kumaga and Lorezen scored.

Stolle then walked and Whitney Rachunek delivered a two-run single.

Womack reached on an infield single to start the third. Chelsea Ramirez grounded out and Jaycee Lorezen popped out.

Kaitlyn Melancon walked but the inning ended when Womack left second too early.

Kelsey Kutac walked in the top of the fourth for Louise's first runner.

She went to second on an error but was stranded after Cheyenne Collins flied out.

Boling picked up two runs in the bottom of the inning to force the runrule end of the game.

Pinch hitter Kassie Nash walked and Whitney Rachunek flied out. After Ferrell singled, Paige Bucek reached on a fielder's choice and Nash scored.

Casey Ivy walked to load the bases. Womack drew a free pass and Ferrell was forced home.

Boling hosted Palacios on Tuesday and plays three games at the Rice Consolidated Tournament in Altair on Friday.

The Lady Bulldogs play Shiner at 9 a.m., Smithville at 4 p.m. and the host Lady Raiders at 5:45 p.m.

"It's all about getting ready for district," said Burnell.

And that start comes when Boling host Van Vleck in their District 27-2A opener next Tuesday.
