Benno Staudt

Benno Alfred Staudt, age 92, of East Bernard died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 in a Houston hospital following an extended illness. He was born on Nov. 14, 1915 in Fredericksburg, the son of Joseph Peter Staudt and Helena Stein Moritz Staudt.

Mr. Staudt had been a resident of East Bernard for the past 27 years and was a former longtime resident of Wharton. He married Clarice Adale Dunaway on Nov. 12, 1945 in Freeport and she preceded him in death on June 27, 1972. He later married Rosemary Smith on Nov. 8, 1980 in Garwood. He was also preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters. Mr. Staudt worked by trade as a jeweler in Freeport and for Wynn's Jewelry Store in Wharton, and later was a route carrier for the Houston Post. Mr. Staudt was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard. He enjoyed gardening and working in his yard.

A prayer service was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Holcomb officiating. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008 at the Wharton Funeral Home with Deacon Alvin Matthys officiating and assisted by Rev. Michael Holcomb. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Restwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Lake Jackson.

Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Staudt of East Bernard; daughters and sons-inlaw, Mary Helen and George Guttenberger of Wharton, Barbara Ann and Larry Shishkoff and Karen Elizabeth Rogers, all of Houston, and Barbara and Joseph Ardis of East Bernard; sons and daughters-inlaw, James and Ellie Staudt of Anahuac, Michael and Donna Staudt of Wharton, Russel Smith of Austin and Mitchel and Patsy Smith of Garwood; sister, Xavier Gifford of Lake Jackson; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Guy Guttenberger, Kelly Guttenberger, Travis Staudt, Mike Shishkoff, Jim Staudt and Bryan Ardis.

Honorary pallbearers will be Adam Shishkoff, Kerrie and Allen Cunningham, Lauren Staudt, Traci and Doug Lee, Christine and Brandon Rabius, Beckie Staudt, Coi Guttenberger, Libby Ardis, Delana and Will Joines, Lori and Brennan Jobe, Max Willburn Staudt and Milton "Sonny" Crenwelge.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to the church or charity of personal choice or to the East Bernard EMS.

Funeral services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.

Patricia Ullmann

Patricia Louann Hunt Ullmann, age 60, of Wharton, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2008 at her residence following a sudden illness. She was born on Aug. 19, 1947 in Newport, Ark., the daughter of Marvin Alvin Hunt and Louise Carr Hunt.

Mrs. Ullmann had been a resident of Wharton since 1965 and was a former resident of Freeport. She married Frederick Paul "Freddy" Ullmann on July 31, 1965 in Freeport, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 2003. Mrs. Ullmann graduated from Brazosport High School in 1965. She was a Licensed Vocational Nurse and had worked at Gulf Coast Medical Center and Wharton Manor Nursing Home. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton. She and her husband were active with the Wharton Girls Softball league for many years.

A wake service was recited at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, 2008 at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home and funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008 at the Wharton Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Alvin Matthys officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial park Cemetery in Wharton.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Bryan Janda of El Campo; son and daughter-in-law, Clayton and Donna Ullmann of Wharton; parents, Marvin and Louise Hunt of Wharton; grandchildren, Kevin Hamby, Staci Paul, Traci Paul, Christopher Janda and Matthew Janda.

Pallbearers were Richard Lockley, Kevin Hamby, Irvin Ullmann, Butch Stolle, Stephen Ullmann and Al Janda.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to your favorite charity.
