DEER PARK - Wharton's girls basketball team needed a win over Hardin- Jefferson Friday night to advance to the Class 3A Region III quarterfinals.
Hardin-Jefferson beat Coldsprings 70-35 in a bi-district game on Tuesday to set up last night's area round contest.
If Wharton won, the Lady Tigers would play Royal, which beat Cleveland 57-38 in an area round match up on Thursday.
Also in the top of the bracket, Fairfield beat Taylor 68-40
Lorena played Diboll on Friday night
In the bottom of the bracket, Waco Robinson beat Huntington 48-38.
Silsbee played Navasota, La Grange played Orangefield and Liberty Hill battled Madisonville on Friday in the other half of the bracket.
