WCJC diamond men swept by Temple
Pioneers host Angelina next Wednesday

WCJC's baseball team slipped to 8-5 on the season after dropping a doubleheader to Temple College Thursday afternoon at Tiger Field.

The games were originally scheduled for Wednesday but postponed because of wet grounds.

Temple won the first game 4-0 and the second 3-2.

Jay Reese started the first game for the Pioneers and pitched into the sixth. He gave up all four runs and six hits.

Kurt Lee finished the game and gave up one hit.

Temple jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and picked up three more runs in the sixth.

WCJC only had three hits in the game.

Designated hitter Ryan Phenix singled with two outs in the third but was stranded.

Third baseman Cody Ross singled in the fourth with one out and was also stranded. Shortstop Daniel Meyer singled in the sixth.

Jacob Liedka started the second game and pitched into the fifth. He gave up three runs on nine hits and fanned nine.

Mike Clark finished the game and struck out two.

Temple jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first and WCJC tied the game in the third.

Second baseman Alex Johnson reached on an error and later scored on a RBI single by center fielder Tyler Hicks.

Meyer followed with a double but Ross flied out and first baseman Max Herschap grounded out.

Temple picked up two more runs in the fourth to go up 3-1.

WCJC made it 3-2 with a run in the fifth.

Hicks singled with one out and promptly stole second.

Meyer followed with a base hit. After Ross flied out, Herschap singled and stole second. Hicks would score in the frame before Reno Malay struck out to end the inning.

WCJC was retired in order in the sixth and seventh innings.

WCJC was scheduled to play a doubleheader against Lon Morris today in Jacksonville.

The Pioneers host Angelina in a doubleheader next Wednesday.

WCJC then cranks up it's Region XIV South Zone schedule next Saturday with a 3 game series against Laredo Community College.
