BHS wins 10th debate championship

Boling High School hosted the District Cross Examination Debate for 27 2A and 25 3A on Feb. 9.

The BHS students won their 10th consecutive District Cross Examination Debate Championship by defeating teams from Brazos.

State qualifiers include the first place team of Colton Frankum and Liana Castro and the second place team of Cheyenne Price and Stephen Winkenwerder. Amadeus Fuentes and Kenny Garza placed fourth and will serve as second alternates to State.

The State competition will be held at the University of Texas on March 9 to 11.

These students are coached by Linda L. Alderson and Anne McCain.

On Feb. 1st several BHS Band members participated in the Region 13 UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest.

Students earning a First Division rating for solos were A.J. Fellers, Chris Giese, Cristina Hinojosa, Jordan Pinson, Angela Valdez and Kaitlynn Wittig.

The percussion ensemble comprised of Kevin Ferrell, Cristina Hinojosa, Chris Hlavinka, Ashton Kalina, Simon Mendoza, Jordan Pinson, Carson Quave and Xavier Sims also earned a First Division rating.

Congratulations for representing BHS so well! The band is now preparing for the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest to be held on March 12 at Industrial High School.

BHS UIL Academic students have been preparing for the Needville Academic Meet held at Needville High School today.

Sponsors and students are working hard in preparation for the UIL meet scheduled for March 28.

The BHS Student Council donated money to Habitat for Humanity.

The fourth Habitat for Humanity house will be built in Boling starting in the fall of 2008 for the Greling Matthews family. Student Council members will be assisting in this building project.

Important reminder: The 24th annual Boling Fair Fund Bar-B-Que Dinner, Auction and Dance are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Boling Community Center. Tickets for the Dinner and Dance are $7 per person.

Music will be provided by Party Time DJ Russell Hubenak. Auctioneers will be Douglas Hubenak and Lex Forgason.

Please mark this on your calendar and come out and support the youth of our community.

Cookies! Cookies! Cookies!! The Boling Girl Scout Troop No. 64023 will have a cookie booth on Saturday, Feb. 23, and again on March 8 at the intersection of FM 442 and FM 1301 beginning at 10 a.m. Cookies are $3.50 per box.
