Rosenberg church holds chili cook-off, deadline for entries is this Sunday

Don aprons, sharpen knives, start the fires, and prepare to compete a version of the Iron Chef sweepstakes.

Cooks are invited to participate in the first Chili Cook-Off at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg.

There will be two first place prizes, the People's Choice Award and the Mayor's Choice Award. Second, third and fourth place trophies will be awarded.

Joe Gurecky of Rosenberg, Rodney Pavlock of Orchard, Tony Salazar Jr. of Wallis, Delbert Wendt of Needville, Margie Krenek of Pleak, Carolyn Jones of Kendleton, Richard Vacek of Fairchilds, Buck Boettcher of East Bernard, Freddie Newsome of Thompsons and Lou Boudreaux of Simonton are the distinguished panel of mayors, and the people, will determine who cooks the best chili in Rosenberg.

In the event of a tie Doris Gurecky will determine the winner.

Chili at the Church will include arts and crafts, vendor sales and cook off providing an opportunity to have fun, eat well, and win up to $1,000 as grand prize for the best chili this side of the Brazos.
