Thomas Aykes

Funeral services for Thomas Aykes Sr., 88, of Wharton, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at Mother Zion Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Mr. Aykes died Jan. 31, 2008 at Gulf Coast Medcial Center. He was born July 18, 1919 in Van Vleck to Isaac Aykes and Katie Chambers.

He was a retired fork lift operator.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Tommie Turner of Kendleton, Diane and Leon Allen and Bernice and Jake Johnson, all of Wharton; step-daughters and step-sonin law, Eugenia and Johnnie Robinson and Lillian Williams, all of Wharton; sons and daughters in-law, Jessie and Kathleen Aykes, Thomas and Dora Aykes Jr., Terry and Claudia Aykes and Ellis and Edith Williams, all of Wharton, and Cleon and Velda Roberts of New Orleans, La.; sister, Martha Williams of Wharton; 46 grandchildren and 85 great-grandchildren.
