Boling Fair Fund barbecue events set for Feb. 23

The 24th annual Boling Fair Fund Barbecue Dinner, Auction and Dance are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Boling Community Center. The Social will be from 4 to 5 p.m. followed by the dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. The auction starts at 6:30 p.m. and goes until 9 p.m. and the dance will run from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. Tickets for the dinner and dance are $7 per person. Music provided by deejay Russell Hubenak. Auctioneers will be Douglas Hubenak and Lex Forgason.

It's Girl Scout Cookie time. The Boling Girl Scout Troop No. 64023 will have a cookie booth on Saturday, Feb. 23, and again on March 8 at the intersection of FM 442 and FM 1301 beginning at 10 a.m. Cookies are $3.50 per box, and the new cookie this year is called Cinna Spins. The 18 girls in the Boling troop are lead by Irene Arriaga who is the Wharton County cookie coordinator. If you are unable to come out to the booth, you may contact Irene at 657-2171. Please come by and support them by buying plenty of cookies.

The Boling FFA just wrapped up competition at the Southwestern Livestock Exhibition in Fort Worth. The Chapter once again had a successful trip and brought home numerous awards during the Junior Heifer Shows from January 17 to 21. Brooke Wallace exhibited a Jersey Dairy Heifer and placed fourth in her class. Brooke also showed a Santa Gertrudis Heifer that placed seventh in the Junior Breeding Heifer Show. Brett Wallace took second place class honors with his Santa Gertrudis Heifer. Cody Atkinson won top honors of the week by placing first in his class with his Red Angus Heifer and took home Senior Calf Champion Division honors. Congratulations to these young exhibitors and good luck in San Antonio!

Last week the BHS Student Council held elections for class favorites. The results for the 2007-2008 class favorites were: freshmen-Anselmo Muniz and Lindsay Kumaga; sophomores- Justin Henson and Larissa Reina; juniors-Justin Hobbs and Haley Hubenak; and seniors Trey Kulak and Mackenzie Baker. Congratulations to these students.

Iago Federated Church has begun preparations for its annual Valentine's Banquet. It will be held on Feb. 14 at 6:30 p.m. Chicken fried steak with all the trimmings and dessert will be served for an $8 donation. Entertainment will be provided by Gospel singer Jerry Bennett. Tickets need to be purchased in advance from any board member, or you can call the church office at 657-2466.

The Iago Junior High School basketball teams will wrap up their season next Monday, Feb. 4, with their final games against Hitchcock. The Lady Bullpups will play at home while the Bullpups will be on the road.

A special Happy Birthday to my sister, Sharon Schafer, on Friday, Feb. 1, and my brother,

Dennis Kelley, on Tuesday, Feb. 5!
