Wharton swimmers qualify for regional
They accomplished the feat by finishing in the top six at Saturday's District 25-4A Championships at the El Campo Aquatic Center. Angleton took the girls title by totaling 143 points. Bay City finished second with 100 points, Wharton was third with 94 points, El Campo was fourth with 76 points, Manvel was fifth with 37 points, Brazosport was sixth with 35 points, Stafford was seventh with 13 points and Columbia was eighth with four points. Angleton also took the boys title, totaling 137 points. Bay City was second with 121 points, Brazosport was third with 72 points, Wharton finished fourth with 64 points, Manvel was fifth with 38 points, Stafford was sixth with 25 points, El Campo was seventh with 21 points and Columbia didn't field a team. In girls relay races, the Wharton 200-yard medley relay team of Amanda Billings, Blair Zahn, Shea Flynn and Sara Harper won the event with a 2:07.64 time. The 200-yard freestyle team of Harper, Megan Lesak, Billings and Flynn finished second with a 1:52.06. And the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Lizzie Roades, Kendall Watson, Zahn and Lesak finished fourth with a 4:28.67. In boys relays, the Wharton 200- yard medley team of Matthew Zahn, Taylor Cline, Johnny Castro and Tate Lowe finished fourth with a 1:58.09. The 200-yard freestyle team of Lowe, Cline, Zahn and Castro finished third with a 1:42.71. In individual races, Roades finished sixth in the girls 200-yard freestyle relay with a 2:28.59 to qualify for regional. Zahn finished eighth with a 2:30.13 and Watson was ninth with a 2:30.22. Billings won the girls 200-yard individual medley with a 2:36.97 and Castro won the boys race with a 2:26.43. Flynn finished fourth in the girls 50-yard freestyle with a 27.41. Harper finished sixth with a 28.37 and Lesak was ninth with a 29.08. Zahn finished seventh in the boys race with a 26.74. Flynn won the girls 100-yard butterfly with a 1:10.18 and Lesak finished third with a 1:16.58. Castro won the boys race with a 1:01.31. Lowe finished sixth in the boys 100-yard freestyle with a 57.57 to qualify for regional. Roades finished third in the girls 500-yard freestyle with a 6:27.70 to qualify for regional. Cline finished fourth in the boys race with a 6:19.01 to also qualify. Billings finished fourth in the girls 100-yard backstroke with a 1:13.97 to qualify. Watson finished ninth with a 1:23.05. Lowe finished sixth in the boys race with a 1:45 to qualify. Zahn finished third in the girls 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:20.31 to qualify. Cline finished third in the boys race with a 1:20.14 to qualify. |
