Guadalupe Cantu

Guadalupe Bermudes Cantu, age 78, of Boling, passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008 in Boling. She was born on Dec. 26, 1929 in Pasadena, daughter of the late Juan Bermudes and San Juanita Gonzales Bermudes.

Mrs. Cantu was reared in Goliad before moving to Boling in 1950. She married Julian Cantu Sr. on March 19, 1944 in Goliad. He preceded her in death on March 6, 2001. Mrs. Cantu was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Boling. Her favorite past time was playing Bingo with family and friends.

Funeral mass services were held Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Boling with Rev. Bryan Heyer officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Rosary services were held Monday evening at Wharton Funeral Home with Deacon David Valdez officiating.

Survivors include her daughters, Sonia Cantu of Boling, Irene Juarez and husband Jose of Boling, Becky Montoya and husband Manuel of Boling, Ophelia Botello and husband Andrew of Wharton and Mary Jane Perez and husband Robert of Angleton; sons, Juan R. Cantu of Boling and Julian Cantu Jr. and wife Linda of Needville; daughter-in-law, Esther Cantu of Bay City; sisters, Tomasa Cortines of Goliad and Hermana Sanchez of Houston; brother, Manuel Bermudes of Rosenberg; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.

Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Cantu was preceded in death by a son, Ignacio Cantu; four brothers and one sister.

Pallbearers were Juan Cantu, Julian Cantu Jr., Manuel Montoya, Jose Juarez, Andrew Botello, Hector Bermudes and David Triplett.
