Chamber members set goals at annual retreat The Wharton Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture board held its annual retreat last Friday and looks forward to a successful year. Alysia Cook, a community development specialist with the Lower Colorado River Authority, served as the facilitator and did an excellent job. Cheryl Roach, of NewFirst National Bank's Wharton Branch, is the 2008 board chair of the chamber and worked very hard to make this planning process productive. She instructed the board that she wanted realistic, obtainable goals for the year 2008. The board members broke into groups to develop a specific plan of works for the coming year. Cook, with the LCRA, is tabulating the detailed results of those break-out sessions right now and will deliver it to the chamber. The goals include marketing Wharton as a destination for travelers, conventions and business meetings, plus doing a better job of explaining the many benefits of membership and the services the chamber provides. In addition to Roach, board members include Stephen Zetsche, Charla Kulchak, Dr. Dwight King, Tricia Vasut, Melanie Chumchal, David Copeland, Danny Moses, John Perches, Kent Hill, Rebecca Klima, Mike Wootton and immediate past president Ann Gooden. Our treasurer is Debbie Cenko. The board developed the following statement of purpose: The Wharton Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture is an advocate for the prosperity of Wharton, making it a better place to live, work, learn, visit and do business. Also, mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 11. That's the date for the 2008 Chamber Banquet. Tickets should be printed up this week. Billie Jones is chairing the banquet committee and, of course, is doing an excellent job and plans a fun evening for you. |
