Rodeo art winners selected for Wharton ISD

Wharton Independent School District's winners of the Rodeo Art contest for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo were named on Tuesday, Jan. 22.
A team of approximately twenty judges from the Houston area rated Wharton ISD's entries.
This year, the exhibit took place at the Education Support Center.
The artwork advancing to the Houston Livestock show consists of Gold Medalists and Best of Show winners.
Top high school honors went to sophomore Patricio Cervantez for his art entitled "Old Big Red."
WJHS "Best of Show" was awarded to eighth grader Stephanie Contreras for her work called "Greetings."
The Elementary "Best of Show" went to sixth grader Schahn Pollock who titled his piece, "Midnight Branding."
Wharton High School's Gold Medalist is junior Rolando Duran for "My Childhood Days in Texas."
The junior high gold went to eighth grader Justine Contreras, who submitted "Cory," and sixth grader Leslie Valdez's "Indian Paint Brushes" was awarded the honor of Elementary Gold.

Applications for the Glassell Junior School of Art Academy held during the summer months went to Pollock, Valdez, the Contreras sisters, and Cervantez.
Cervantez was also given an application to attend the Western Art Academy Summer Workshop held in Kerrville.
Seniors Dexter Baldwin and Enrique Baldwin received applications for art scholarships to any college in Texas.
Gold Medal and Best of Show art will be on exhibit in the Hayloft Gallery,
Reliant Center, during the Houston Livestock Show, March 3 through March 22.
The Awards Presentation will be held at the Reliant Center - Main Arena on March 8 at 9 a.m., and the auction at Reliant Center Sales Pavilion on March 16 at noon.
The Wharton ISD Houston art coordinator is junior high art instructor Mavis Toney.
