      Wharton Independent School District's winners of the Rodeo Art contest for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo were named on Tuesday, Jan. 22. A team of approximately twenty judges from the Houston area rated Wharton ISD's entries.

Auditions set for Foote play ................
      The Plaza Theatre on the Square in Wharton will hold open auditions for Horton Foote's The Traveling Lady on Feb. 3 and 4 at 6 p.m. at the Wharton County Historical Museum, 3615 N. Richmond Road in Wharton. Performances are slated for April 11 to 20.

Ivy gets degree
      Melanie Ivy of Wharton has graduated from the University of Houston-Victoria. Graduation ceremonies were held Dec. 9 at Leonard E. Merrell Center in Katy. Ivy graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science in interdisciplinary studies.

IFC hosts Valentine Banquet Feb. 14, barbecue fundraiser tonight
      Iago Federated Church has begun preparations for their annual Valentine's Banquet. It will be held on Feb. 14 at 6:30 p.m. They will be serving chicken fried steak with all the trimmings and dessert for an $8 donation.
