Dorothy Mikes
Dorothy Dean "Jack" Mikes, age 82, of Pasadena, and a former longtime resident of Wharton died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008 in a Pasadena hospital following a brief illness. She was born on Dec. 23, 1925 in East Bernard, daughter of the late Joe Rieger and Frieda Groff Rieger.
Mrs. Mikes was a resident of Pasadena for the past two years and was a longtime resident of Wharton.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton. Mrs. Mikes married Eugene John Mikes on Feb. 12, 1964 in Galveston and he preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 1994.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters. Mrs. Mikes worked as a cotton buyer in East Bernard until her retirement.
Friends may call for visitation starting at 11a.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008 at Wharton Funeral Home and funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Wharton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dominic Antwi-Boasiako officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Barney James of Pasadena; sons, Gary Mikes and Darrell Cervenka, both of Wharton; sisters, Willa Mae Brewer of Wharton, Merle Kucera of Beaumont and Minnie Rieger of Wharton; and three grandchildren, Laura Mikes "Sugar Bear," Tabatha James "Taby" and Justin James "Twinky."
Pallbearers will be Vernon Brewer Jr., Mark Kucera, Randy Rieger, Howard Clark, Richard Alcalar and William Blundell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Kucera, Cristian Avalos, Steven Wilson II and Larry Robertson.
Funeral services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
