Students make honor rolls, couples celebrate

The following young people of our community made the honor roll list during the third six weeks. The "A" honor roll was made by Essence Allen and Jaliya Montano; and the "A/B" honor roll was made by Jasmine Allen, Briana Jenkins, Jasmin Lockridge and Nicholas Martinez. Congratulations to all of you and keep up the good work.

Three well-known couples of Wharton County are celebrating their wedding anniversaries on Jan. 28. Mark and Barbara Goodell of Wharton will celebrate their 24 years of marriage under the china and platinum wedding symbols; Ronnie and Honey Stavena of Wharton will celebrate 36 years of marriage under the coral, traditional, and jade, modern, wedding symbols; and Robert and Emilia Kolacny of Boling will celebrate 41 years of marriage under the ruby, both traditional and modern, wedding symbol. Happy wedding anniversary wishes are sent to each couple from family members and friends.

Belated happy birthday wishes go out to Sandra Stewart, who celebrated her birthday on Jan. 19. She is manager of KANI Radio Station. Terrence Brown celebrated his birthday on Jan. 22 and is a dee jay at the radio station.

Happy birthday wishes go out today to Henry Jetelina, Gregg Moore, Rowena Reynolds and Vivian Salinger. Other birthdays to be celebrated this week will be Billye Barker, Lucas Erdelt, Royce Johansen, Tina Krenek and Everett Mathis on Jan. 24; Jenna Hubenak, Christine Simmons and Carrie Taylor on Jan. 25; Waymond Altenburg, Tim Duyka, Kent Hill, Andrew Howell, Kyle Socha and Calvin Burton on Jan. 26; Monica Chumchal and Billy Watkins on Jan. 27; Jermisha Bankston, James Fitzgerald, John Fitzgerald, Tom Gladden, Tristan Gordon and Becky Kough on Jan. 28; Jeremy Copeland, Andrew Gonzales and Dale McCrohan on Jan. 29. These happy birthday wishes come with lots of love from relatives and friends.

Andrea Myers, RN, of Spanish Camp received recognition for her quick response during the death of the Hitchcock athlete on Jan. 14. The Boling Independent School District's board recognized her on Jan. 18.

Sympathies with prayers are expressed to the Konvicka family who lost their loved one Frank Konvicka on Jan. 15. He was the father of Mike Konvicka who is the sports editor for the Wharton Journal-Spectator.

Sympathy with prayers are expressed to the Salinger family on the loss of their loved one

Linda Salinger of San Antonio on Jan. 15. She is the daughter of Vivian Salinger of Wharton.

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship program was held Sunday at Mother Zion Baptist Church. The program opened with the Boys & Girls Club Drill Team doing a praise dance. Pledge to the American flag was followed by Chari Jackson singing The Star Spangled Banner and the congregation singing Lift Every Voice and Sing. Prayer was offered by Rev. C. Owens and welcome given by Carolyn Haywood. Opening comments were given by Rev. R. Taylor III. Cheryl Ephran then gave a short talk. Mickey Reynolds sang I'll Fly Away, When the Roll is Called Up Yonder and Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.

Debra Wilson sang Look at Me Now and the Barrier Breakers Choir sang The Lord is Blessing Me and Jesus Promised He Will Take Care of Me.

Guest speaker Rev. Edward L. Dawson preached from Proverbs 22:4 and Luke 8: 22- 25. Recognition was given to pastors and public officials. I.J. Ford gave the closing remarks and the benediction was given by Rev. Wallace.

We Will Overcome was sung as everyone exited the sanctuary and headed to the fellowship hall for refreshments.

Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Sorrel and Greater Union Baptist Church in Matthews will sponsor the Twentieth Century District Mission Association Study and Brotherhood meeting at 10 a.m. Jan. 26 at Mount Calvary Baptist Church.

The members of New Home Baptist Church in Garwood invite everyone to their Pastor's Aid Program at 3 p.m. Jan. 27. The word of God will be preached by Rev. Lawrence Robertson.
