Brahmas miss on chance to even mark

The East Bernard Brahmas just missed out on squaring up their district record as they dropped a 53-51 heartbreaker to Yes Prep Tuesday night at Brahma Gym.

With the loss, East Bernard fell to 2-4 in district and 4-15 on the year going into last night's game against Houston Can. Tuesday night, the Brahmas will be at Van Vleck.

The teams played back and forth during Tuesday's contest with Yes going up 17-10 in the first quarter only to see the Brahmas rally to lead at the half, 23-22. The visitors went back up winning the third 16-12 for a 38-35 lead and then held on for the two-point win.

East Bernard's Mike Hayes was the game high scorer with 17 points while Lance Crump added 14 and Matt Stelzel finished with nine. Crump also collected a dozen rebounds while Cory Slater, Hayes and Stelzel finished with three each. Hayes was the assist leader with four while Slater finished with five steals, Hayes, four and Stelzel, three.

Other games played last night included Van Vleck at Yes Prep; Danbury at Hitchcock and Boling at Brazos. Tuesday's district games include Houston Can at Hitchcock, Yes Prep at Boling and Brazos at Danbury

The JV Brahmas dominated their contest, winning 45-27. Tyler Dawson and Alex Wasek led the charge with Dawson's numbers including 14 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals while Wasek finished with 13 points, eight boards and two assists. C.J. Clifton had a solid 11 points, five rebounds, four assists and a steal in the win.

The Freshman team made it two of three for the Brahmas on the night as they collected a 41-32 win. Ben Anderson had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds to go with an assist, two steals and a block. Miles Lee finished with eight points, 10 rebounds, an assist, two steals and two blocks. Jacob Floyd added seven points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal while Alex Fortenberry complimented a strong individual defensive effort with two points, four rebounds and two steals.
