Adams keeps perfect attendance record going in Beta Sigma Phi

Lil Kohleffel, recording secretary Beta Sigma Phi, hosted the Jan. 3 meeting. The president of the chapter, Jean Adams, suffered a light stroke on Christmas Eve. Jean has had the most perfect attendance for the past five years and they held the meeting where she was recuperating to allow her to maintain her perfect attendance. She is a 50-plus year member and most of those years have been with perfect attendance. Dorothy Viktorin will host the next meeting. Ann Chumchal will host in March. Attending the meeting were Jeane Merka, Iris Albrecht, Dorothy Viktorin, Jean Ann Adams and Lillian Kohleffel. Jean is doing great and returned home Friday.

With all the new technology at home, cards with family pictures are now very popular.

On one I saw, newlyweds Jonathan and Tristan Krenek looked awesome on their wedding day. Then there was Dr. Carlos and Wanda Bonnot and their whole clan. Wanda was holding the newest member of the family and the first baby girl after two boys.

One of the first Christmas letters we get is one from Rev. Guy Pry and wife Betty. Their youngest son Scott made his second trip to China with representatives of H-E-B. Scott is their pet supply buyer. Son John is a petroleum engineer supervising salvage operations on his company's Gulf of Mexico oil platform destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Another son, Karl, still works in Houston. Guy is very involved with Habitat for Humanity. They completed its 135th home. He started 17 years ago.

For New Year's Eve, we went to the home of our dear friends Al and Ziomara Ortiz in Rosenberg. Al's sister Alicia was visiting them from Orlando, Fla. We had a great time and were home before midnight.

Suri Lynn Weaver arrived Nov. 13 at GCMC. She is the third child and the first girl to Ryan and Rachel Lynn Gavranovic Weaver.

The Bright Minds Scholarship second annual fundraiser is tonight at the Wharton Community Civic Center with dinner catered by Hinze's. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Dinner at 7 p.m. Dance at 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Proceeds fund scholarships for graduating seniors. Donations are requested for fundraiser expenses. The Triumphs will do the entertaining. Their music is great.

Doncaster Spring Trunk Show starts next Monday through Thursday at Gerry Wadler's residence.

Wharton County assistant to the District Attorney Ross Kurtz stopped by Cuevas Mexican Restaurant on a cold day to pick up some of their tasty caldo for his lovely wife

Gene and Janet Bartosh's grandsons are recent graduates.

Lance Schaffner of East Bernard graduated from Texas A&M in December with bachelor's degree in wildlife and fisheries science and Jason Schneider of Angleton from the University of Houston Clear Lake with a master's degree in finance.

Our grandaughter Helene Smith-Vaughan returned from Nicaragua last Saturday. She is moving to College Station this week in order to attend Texas A&M She finished her associate's degree at WCJC. Her sister Jacqueline Smith-Vaughan arrived on Thursday in San Antonio to continue her school at UT.

Happy Birthday this month to Annette Linseisen, Vicki Bilski, Bernice Kocian, Margie Sklar, Irene Svatek, Dolores Svatek, Eleanor Spacek, Janet Konvicka and Lillian Hundl.

Dr. Francisco Ortiz is celebrating a birthday tomorrow and Mark Gresham on Friday. Other birthdays this week are Kay Shoppa, Callye Otto and Kim Rolf. Belated wishes to Gail Harrison and Raymond Harrison Jr., Pat Blair and Laura Wind.

KCs who celebrate this week are Bill Hubenak, Chris Owens, Father Dominic Antwi- Boasiako, Willie Hanslik, Robert Macek Sr., Johnny Krenek and Lupe Sepeda.

Marshall Locke is recuperating from back surgery performed in Houston.

Congratulations to our friend and volunteer member of the Czech Singers Josie Mican. She is the great-grandmother of Courtney Morgan who recently won the Miss New Hampshire Teen USA 2008 Pageant.

Dr. Harold Secor, who suffered injuries in an automobile accident coming out of Hinze's is at Memorial Hermann Southwest. Please keep him in your prayers.

Frank Konvicka has been a patient at Memorial Hermann Southwest. He is doing better.

Next Wednesday there will be a Polka Mass practice at 7 p.m. at Holy Family Church. The Polka Mass is scheduled for Saturday Jan. 19 at 5:30 p.m.

Manuel Lozano Sr. is undergoing therapy.

He is Tony Lozano's husband and father of Sister Ana

Maria Lozano of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Convent. A big hug and a most happy day to a very special friend, Dolores Svatek, who reached the big 70 Jan. 10.

She will be honored by her family and friends tomorrow at the American Legion Hall from 2 to 6 p.m. Have a happy and beautiful day Dolores, we all love you.
