Tigers clip Jays for third district victory

NEEDVILLE - Wharton's boys basketball team improved to 3-0 in the District 24-3A standings after beating rival Needville 55-49 Friday night in Bluejay Gymnasium.

The Tigers hosted Stafford, which was 2-1, last night and the Jays were 1- 2 before playing Royal, which was 2-1.

Sweeny was 3-0 before playing Sealy, which was 1-2.

Jordan Kirschke led Wharton's scoring attack with 24 points. He hit five 3-pointers in the first half.

Keemon Jones, Odis Thompson and Kenneth Phynon scored six each.

K.C. Curtis finished with five. Jonavon Jones added four and Louis Byars and Ronnie Ray scored two each.

Tyler Bridges led the Bulldogs with 12 points. Harold Hunter finished with 11, Creed Henry added eight and Garrett Janke scored seven.

Coming up Friday, Wharton hosts Sealy, Sweeny entertains Brazoria County rival Columbia, Royal plays at Stafford and Needville plays at Columbus.

Tiger JV posts win

NEEDVILLE - Wharton's junior varsity boys basketball team beat Needville 48-41 Friday to improve to 1-2 in District 24-3A play.

Elijah Richardson led the Tigers with 14 points. Doug Ford finished with 13 points.

Nathan Wilson added five points, Bobby Browder and Irving Gomez scored four each. Joey Jackson and Lloyd Grissom scored two each and T.T. Johnson hit a free throw.
