Wharton swim teams prevail over El Campo

EL CAMPO - Wharton's boys and girls swim teams competed in a dual meet with county rival El Campo Monday night at the El Campo Aquatic Center.

Wharton's girls totaled up 106 points and El Campo finished with 68 points. Wharton's boys team totaled up 94 points and El Campo didn't field a team.

In girls relay races, the Wharton 200-yard medley relay team of Shea Flynn, Blaire Zahn, Kaleigh Kacal and Amanda Billings took first with a 2:10.09. The boys team of Tate Lowe, Robert Lee, Johnny Castro and Matthew Zahn recorded a 2:00.06 time.

The Wharton girls 400-yard freestyle relay team of Zahn, Kendall Watson, Lizzie Roades and Megan Lesak took second with a 4:40.01. El Campo won the race with a 4:25.06.

The boys 200-yard freestyle relay team of Castro, Zahn, Lowe and Lee posted a time of 1:45.99.

In individual races, Watson won the 200-yard girls freestyle with a 2:29.30.

Taylor Cline won the boys race with a 2:19.71.

Billings won the girls 200-yard individual medley with a 2:40.59 and Castro won the boys race with a 2:32.7.

Flynn finished third in the girls 50- yard freestyle with a 28:19. Kacal was fourth with a 28.58 and Lesak was fifth with a 29.64.

Lee won the boys race with a 25.12 and Zahn was second with a 26.57.

Kacal won the girls 100-yard butterfly with a 1:14.30 and Lesak was second with a 1:17.33.

Castro won the boys race with a 1:06.40.

Billings finished third in the girls 100-yard freestyle with a 1:05.35 and Zahn was fourth with a 1:08.75.

Tate Lowe won the boys race with a 1:01.32.

Roades won the girls 500-yard freestyle with a 6:47.23.

Flynn won the girls 100-yard backstroke with a 1:22. Watson was second with a 1:22.90.

Matthew Zahn won the boys race with a 1:14.64 and Lowe was second with a 1:17.22.

Blaire Zahn won the girls 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:21.96.

Lee won the boys race with a 1:23.74 and Cline was second with a 1:25.19.

Wharton swims in the Alvin Classic on Jan. 19 and competes in the District 25-4A Championships on Jan. 26 in El Campo.
