      Burglaries, thefts Theft - Reported at BJ's Mini Mart, 320 E. Milam St., Wharton, at 12:45 p.m. Sunday. Theft - Reported in the 100 block of East Alabama Street, Wharton, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday. Currency of $500 was reported stolen.

Police handling dog duties

      Wharton police aren't just stopping speeders, drug dealers and burglars these days - they're chasing down stray dogs and trapping possums, too. Patrol officers for the last few weeks have added dog catcher duties to their list of things to do in the absence of animal control officer Rubien Jones.
