      VICTORIA - The Wharton girls basketball team defeated Industrial 55-44 last Saturday to claim the St. Joseph Invitational Tournament championship. Wharton beat Hallettsville Sacred Heart 74-33 in a first round game last Thursday.

Wharton boys continue District 24-3A schedule
      BAY CITY - Wharton's boys basketball team went 2-3 in the Eddie Nelson Invitational Tournament which was completed last Saturday in Black Cat Gymnasium. Wharton beat host Bay City 50-42 in first round game last Wednesday. The Tigers beat district foe Columbia 59-43 later in the day.

Lechler to play in 3rd NFLPro Bowl
      OAKLAND - East Bernard graduate and Oakland Raider punter Shane Lechler was named to play in his third Pro Bowl. Lechler averaged 49.1 yards per punt and led the NFLin gross punting average in 2007.

Boling girls go 2-2 in Woodsboro tourney
      WOODSBORO - The Boling girls basketball team went 2-2 in the Woodsboro Invitational Tournament which was completed last Saturday. Boling dropped a 57-51 decision to Runge in a first round game on Dec. 27. The Lady Bulldogs then lost to Bruceville-Eddy 63-49 later in the day.

Boling boys continue 27-2A cage schedule
      The Boling boys basketball team resumed it's District 27-2A schedule Friday night by taking on Wharton County rival East Bernard. Both team own 0-2 district records after losing league games on Dec. 18 and Dec. 21. Brazos was 2-0 before playing Hitchcock who had the same record last night.

      DANBURY - Iago's 7th and 8th grade boys basketball teams split district games against Danbury on Thursday afternoon. Iago's 8th grade beat Danbury 25-18 to improve to 4-1 in district play. Jacolby Hodges led Iago with 10 points.
