Wilma Donaldson

Wilma Peavy Donaldson, age 96, of Wharton, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born on April 4, 1911 in Chickasha, Okla., the daughter of the late Harlan Dewitt Peavy and Donnie Love Stewart Peavy.

Mrs. Donaldson had been a resident of Wharton and the Burr Community since 1945 and was a former resident of Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, the Cabiness Community. She married William Arnold Donaldson on April 6, 1936 in Fort Smith, Ark., and he preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 1989. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Peavy Baker and Ganese Peavy Swafford; and brother, Thomas Yale Peavy.

She was a graduate of the McAlester High School in Oklahoma. She received her BA Degree from South Eastern State Teachers' College in Durant, Okla., and her master's of education from the University of Houston. Mrs. Donaldson was a school teacher for 35 years prior to her retirement in 1971 having taught school at Lawson (Burr), Iago and Newgulf. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Wharton. She taught music for many years and loved to play for her family, friends and church.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2007 at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Willard Hill and Rev. Mack Mathis offi- ciating. Burial followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.

Survivors include nieces, Janus Marshall Anderson and Wilma Faye Barnhill King, both of Wharton, Virginia Donaldson Beshears of McAlester, Okla., Donna Baker Otey of Alex, Okla., Vicky Donaldson Fleisher and husband, Harvey of Houston and Patty Donaldson Savage and husband, Jerry of Friendswood; nephews, Gerald Donaldson and wife, Billie, of Wharton and Thomas Yale Swafford of Walnut Creek, Calif.; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Pallbearers were Clay Richardson, Harvey Stelzel, Phil Bush, David Copeland, Ed Eppes, Mike Groover, Oscar Rasmussen and Lester Johse.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to the Baptist Encampment, 1110 First Street, Palacios, TX 77465.

Funeral services were under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
