Clouds of smoke

Photo by Elmer Cavender A Wharton firefighter approaches a pickup found burning in a field off Montgomery Road. The fire occurred around 4 p.m. Christmas Eve and was reportedly accidentally started by a propane tank that was being used to burn dead limbs. The initial fire truck on the scene was unable to enter the field due to a small gate. Firefighters had to wait until the department's grass truck arrived.
