Local scholarship program provides monetary assistance to Boling, Wharton and East Bernard students for college and vocational training

      In 2007, the Bright Minds Scholarship Fund provided 11 scholarships to students in Wharton, East Bernard and Boling school districts. Not bad for the first year in existence, but fund members have no intentions of resting on their laurels.

      An Alice Street home was a bright orange ball of flame early Thursday morning as El Campo firfi.ghters raced to the scene. Why the blaze - which completely destroyed the small wood-frame home - started is still under investigation.

DPS on look out for holiday drunk drivers
      The DPS is asking Texas drivers to exhibit a little holiday spirit on our roadways over the holidays. DPS Troopers and other law enforcement officers will be out in force for the New Year's holiday, looking for speeders, drunk drivers and seat belt violators.

      El Campo and Wharton jailbirds rode to lockup in style Thursday when patrol cars gave way to stretch limousines. But these special transportation vehicles weren't for just anybody soon to be behind bars - it was a one way ride to the Muscular Dystrophy Association's lock up fund-raising event.

      This coming Tuesday will be Jan. 1, the beginning of the brand new year of 2008. A successful and safe Happy New Year is wished to all of you from my family and me. Dr. John Fink, the OB/ GYN at south Texas Medical Clinics, retired from the clinic and GCMC board at the end of December.
