T.L Pink alumni hold annual fund-raiser Dec. 22
Monies generated through ticket sales go to give scholarships to deserving students

Former UH quarterback Rev. Danny Davis of Jordan Grove Missionary Baptist Church will be the featured speaker at the Dec. 22 T.L. Pink Alumni and Ex-Students Association's annual Holiday Scholarship Banquet.
T. L. Pink Alumni and Ex-Students Association will celebrate its 19th annual Holiday Scholarship Banquet on Saturday, Dec. 22, at 7 p.m. in the Wharton Community Civic Center.

The public is invited to the event. Donations are $25 for adults and $12 for children.

The keynote speaker will be Reverend Danny Davis, pastor of Jordan Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Houston.

Rev. Davis is a native of Dallas and is married to Bonnetta.

Rev. Davis graduated from Dallas Carter High School and the University of Houston.

In high school and the University of Houston he was a star quarterback. While at the University of Houston, he led the Cougars to the Cotton Bowl two years and winning the event one year.

Now he is a star quarterback at the Jordan Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Houston serving as its pastor.

Rev. Davis is certified in expository preaching from the E.K. Bailey and W.H.W. Institutes and is one of Houston's most sought-after preachers, says alumni member Willie Giles.

At the Jordan Grove Campus, he initiated and completed two major projects valued in excess of $2 million and oversees a Social Service Department that feeds hundreds of needy people each week.

Pastor Davis is actively involved in the Third Ward community. He was area coordinator for Mayor Bill White's Third Ward Clean Campaign.

He is involved in outreach ministries and serves as football chaplain at his alma mater, the University of Houston, and at Texas Southern University.

Davis says he is very mindful that he has come this far by faith - not leaning on his own understanding, but depending on the Lord to do what He does best - that is, to work in and through the lives of all who allow Him the freedom to do His will.

The scholarship recipients for 2007- 2008 are: Kindra Boston, A'Lia' Coleman, Kristin Giles, Condice Heard, Amber Johnson, Dyamon Jones, Whitley Lemons, Sharnisha Malone, Candance Mitchell, Jessica Sherwood, Jonezolyn Shorter, Julius Smith, Ariel Taylor and Joi Young.

All funds raised by the event go to furnish scholarships to seniors in area schools.
