Tigers clip Cowboys Wharton High's boys basketball team closed it's first predistrict schedule Tuesday night by picking up a 62-57 win over Edna at Tiger Gymnasium. The Tigers improved to 5-5 on the season and hosted Columbus Friday night in the District 24-3A opener. Wharton took a 14-6 lead after the first quarter but Edna rallied back to tied the game at halftime 23-23. The Tigers outscored the Cowboys 20-13 in the third quarter to go up 53-36. Edna picked up 21 more points in the final eight minutes of the game and Wharton had 19. Jordan Kirschke led the Tigers with 12 points. Kenneth Phynon contributed with 10 points. Keemon Jones finished with nine. Odis Thompson and Jonavan Jones scored eight each. K.C. Curtis and Louis Byars each finished with seven and Julian Waddy hit a free throw. Wharton visits Columbia on Tuesday before taking off for the Christmas Holidays. The Tigers will play in the Bay City Invitational Tournament Dec. 27-29 and resumes district play on Jan. 4 by playing at rival Needville. |
