All-Wharton County football team loaded with talent
Hayes selected Offensive MVP

      East Bernard senior running back Mike Hayes missed most of last year's season with an injury. He went down with an ankle injury early this season and missed four games. Returning from his injury, Hayes helped the Brahmas win two playoffs games.

Wharton swim teams prevail over Angleton, EC
      EL CAMPO - Wharton's boys and girls swim teams won Tuesday's tri-meet at the El Campo Aquatic Center. The boys team totaled up 39 points to beat out second place Angleton, which had 30 points, and host El Campo, which had 12 points.

Tigers clip Cowboys
      Wharton High's boys basketball team closed it's first predistrict schedule Tuesday night by picking up a 62-57 win over Edna at Tiger Gymnasium. The Tigers improved to 5-5 on the season and hosted Columbus Friday night in the District 24-3A opener.

Boling dealt loss by Jays
      NEEDVILLE - Boling's boys basketball team closed out it's non-district season by dropping a 67-55 decision to Needville Tuesday night in The Doghouse. Boling had an open date Friday and plays Yes College Prep in Houston on Tuesday in their District 27-2A opener.

Lady Tigers drop 24-3A basketball game to Royal
      BROOKSHIRE - Wharton's girls basketball team slipped to 1-1 in the District 27-2A standings after dropping a 44-37 decision to Royal Tuesday night in Falcon Gym. Wharton played Columbus in the team's fifth straight road game on Friday. The Lady Cardinals beat Sealy 57-40 and were also 1-1.

Tiger Frosh, JV pick up big wins
      Wharton's freshman and junior varsity boys basketball teams picked up wins over Edna Tuesday at Tiger Gymnasium. The freshman won 59-44 to improve to 5-3 on the season. Luther Lathon led the Tigers with 22 points. Ashton Washington finished with 16, and Ken Lowery added 10.

Brahmarettes win 27-2A opener
      HOUSTON - The East Bernard girls basketball team beat Yes College Prep 67-14 Tuesday night in it's District 27-2A opener. "It's nice to open district with a win," said EB coach Ronnie Schmidt. "I really liked our focus through the whole game.
