Residents 'cuffed' for MDA
By SHANNON CRABTREE scrabtree@leader-news.com

Some very well known and typically upstanding county citizens may find themselves handcuffed and behind bars Thursday. But it's for a good cause they say. The lockup is an annual fund-raiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Those "arrested" will be transported to Pincher's Boil N Pot on U.S. 59 where they will have from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to make bail.

"We should have about 50 jail birds," MDA event coordinator Shamyra Robinson said Monday. "Every person is arrested and brought to our MDA jail where we take a mug shot."

El Campo and Wharton police officers will be serving as "escorts" for those about to be booked. Once at the location, the jail birds will be placed into a holding cell if they have already raised the $1,632 needed to bond out or be taken directly to the phone banks to start calling if they have not.
