Jesse Scribner

Jesse Washington Scribner, age 86, of Wharton, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007 in a Wharton hospital following a brief illness. He was born on May 9, 1921 in Culieoka, Tenn., the son of the late George Butler Scribner and Laura Bell Howell Scribner.

Mr. Scribner was a longtime resident of Wharton County living in Magnet before moving to Wharton. He was a graduate of Wharton High School. Mr. Scribner was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Air Force. He worked as an oil field driller for J.B. Ferguson and later worked as a construction supervisor until his retirement in 1983. Mr. Scribner was a lifetime member of the Wharton Masonic Lodge No. 621, the American Legion Post No. 87 in Wharton and the VFW.

He was a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Scribner was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Cordelia Mielsh and Ruth Miles; three brothers, Walter, Wheeler and Sim Scribner; and a nephew, Edward Krenek.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007 at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Paul Jones officiating. Graveside services will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton conducted by the Wharton Masonic Lodge No. 621 and American Legion Post No. 87 of Wharton.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Scribner of Wharton; nieces, Lena Ruth Hurlbut, Joann Bell, Doris Brandes, Diane Calvo, Mary Elizabeth Blunt, Patricia Kelemen and Dolores Morgan; nephews, George Miles, Paul Krenek Jr., Larry Krenek, Ted Krenek and Patrick Krenek; also numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Pallbearers will be Jack Thornton, George Legler Jr., Anthony Duyka, Ronald Boedeker, Delvin Wuthrich, Ray Kacer, Felix Sopchak and Stanley Konvicka.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Leroy Bahner, Joe Urbanovsky, Eugene Bahnsen, Dr. Robert Satterfield, Alton Bolton, Norman Boedeker, Kelly Boedeker, Ray and Shirley Williamson and all of his many friends and neighbors.

Funeral services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
