Johnson held in Corsicana
Not expected to return here anytime soon to face assault charges

JOHNSON
A Beasley man charged with robbery, burglary and aggravated assault in Wharton isn't expected to return here to face those charges anytime soon.

That's because Jamale Rashad Johnson is still being held in Corsicana for crimes he allegedly committed there.

The 20-year-old is charged with both aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault.

"He will stay there (in Corsicana) with local charges" most likely for several months, Wharton Police Department Detective Don Falks said Tuesday.

Wharton police first came into contact with Johnson on Nov. 25. Early that morning, Johnson allegedly assaulted an ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend with a tire tool at a Dahlgren Street residence.

He also allegedly stabbed the man before grabbing the woman's purse and stealing her car.

He fled the scene, leading Wharton police and Wharton County Sheriff's Department deputies on a high speed chase into Fort Bend County. He escaped near Beasley, not far from where he lives.

Over the next few days, Johnson also called up the mother of his ex-girlfriend and threatened to kill her and the rest of the family, according to police.

Warrants for retaliation, aggravated robbery, burglary with intent to commit aggravated assault and felony evading arrest were issued.

Johnson remained at large until Nov. 28. He and another man, 26-year-old Calvin Dixon, were stopped by Corsicana police early that morning for speeding.

The car they were riding in reportedly belonged to a 19- year-old Wharton County girl, who was also in the vehicle.

She later told police she had picked up Johnson, who is an acquaintance, the day before in Beasley after he demanded she help him leave the area.

Family members claim Johnson threatened to harm the girl's family if she didn't comply.

He later allegedly forced her into the trunk of her car, then drove the vehicle toward the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

She was reportedly threatened with a knife after trying to escape and then sexually assaulted.

Police said the entire ordeal, which began with the alleged attack on Nov. 25 in Wharton, came just five months after Johnson was released from Texas Youth Commission, where he was serving time for aggravated sexual assault.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety crime records, Johnson completed a five year sentence for aggravated sexual assault of a child, in that case a 7-year-old boy.

Johnson is currently a registered sex offender with the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office.
