Voter registration cards in the mail

Retired firefighters get larger credit on city bill

      Wharton's retired firefighters will soon get an increased credit on their city utilities; but for some, that still won't cover their bills. City Council last week approved a 12 percent increase to the benefit provided to retirees from the Wharton Volunteer Fire Department.

Eleven file so far for March primary election

      Through the first four days of filing for positions on the primary election ballot, a combined 11 hopefuls filed applications as candidates. Monday was the first day to file for a spot on the ballot with either the Democratic or Republican parties. The filings listed are through Friday at 11 a.m.
