Bands perform in concerts Thursday, FFA does well at state meet

The Iago Junior High and Boling High School Bands are presenting their Christmas concert on Thursday, Dec. 13, starting at 7 p.m. in the high school gym. Make an effort to attend this musical celebration of the holidays.

On Wednesday the Fifth grade students at Newgulf Elementary School graduated from the D.A.R.E. Program. The students learned and practiced valuable life skills such as making good decisions, being confident, increasing their selfesteem, as well as skills to help them resist drugs, gangs, and violence.

These skills were built upon a foundation of skills and information laid out in kindergarten through fourth grade.

These same skills are reinforced and expanded upon in junior high and high school to help students lead healthy, successful lives.

Students were joined by parents, teachers, the BHS D.A.R.E. Role Models, and D.A.R.E. Officers Jeff Andrejczak and Bill Holt.

Seven members of the Boling FFA competed at the Texas FFA State Leadership Development events, the highest level of competition, held on the campus of Sam Houston State University last Saturday.

Leadership development events focus on creating situations for members to demonstrate their abilities in public speaking, decision making, communication and their knowledge of agriculture and the FFA organization.

The Public Relations Team finished 11th in the state out of 230 entries. Team members were Maegan Rolf, Colton Frankum, Zachary Zahradnik and Kerbe Ford. Haley Hubenak competed in the Senior Creed Speaking contest and finished 17th out of 640 entries statewide. The Radio Broadcasting Team finished 19th out of 574 entries statewide.

This team consisted of Kerbe Ford, Trey Kulak and Justin Henson. These teams advanced through district and area competition to compete at the state level.

....Congratulations to these FFA members on a successful year.

On Jan. 26, the Faith Christian Academy will host its annual Barbecue Chicken Fundraiser Dinner at the KC Hall in Wharton. Dinner and Raffle tickets are now available.

There will be several raffle items, and the top prize is a Toro Commercial Zero-Turn Lawnmower.

The school also has Studded Cross T-Shirts from infant to adult sizes along with candles by Candles & Moore for sale in the school office. Stop by and shop for Christmas. There's even a couple of CDs by Mickey Reynolds for sale. All proceeds will benefit Faith Christian Academy.

Don't forget the Special Election scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 15, to decide on the newest Boling ISD School Board member.

Boling I.S.D. students, teachers and staff will get out for the Christmas holidays on Wednesday, Dec. 19.
