Santa, Grinch to visit Christmas light show A Wharton holiday light show is attracting the attention of the Jolly Old Elf himself. Santa Claus, accompanied by Mrs. Claus, is scheduled to make a guest appearance later this month at the Caney Trails home of Jack Mayes. Mayes and his wife, Barbra, have offered a dazzling holiday light show for the enjoyment of the public since the week after Thanksgiving. The Mayes have turned most of the yard and roof of their 1203 Halfmoon Dr. home into a lighted extravaganza, with thousands of lights blinking in rhythm with classic holiday tunes. The music is broadcast on 94.9 FM to allow visitors to listen along from the comfort of their vehicles. The display is offered free to the public, though donations are requested. All proceeds benefit Wharton's SHARE. As of Friday, around $575 had been collected, Mayes said. Mayes is hoping for a lot more in the next few weeks. The show runs seven days a week until New Year's Day. Visitors have come from as far away as Pledger to see the show. Special visitors are expected in the next two weeks. On Dec. 11, 14 and 18, the Grinch is scheduled to show up at the Mayes' home from 7 to 8 p.m. And then, on Dec. 21 and 22, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will drop by from 7 to 8 p.m. Youngsters can visit with the characters or tell Santa any last minute gift wishes, if desiring. The show will run through New Year's Day, lasting 20 minutes and re-sets every half hour. Show times are 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
