Our Lady of Mount Carmel pre-confirmation class will sponsor a dinner and dance at 7 p.m. tonight at the American Legion Hall in Wharton.
The dance and dinner will benefit the Women's Crisis Center of Wharton County.
A dinner will be served at 7 p.m. for $6 a plate and the dance will begin at 8 p.m.
The admission price for the dance will be $5 per person or a new, un-wrapped toy for the children of the Women's Crisis Center.
The general public is invited and there will be music for the entire family.
Teacher Joey Pennington challenged the class to put their studies to reality.
The class came up with many ideas on how to help others not as fortunate as themselves.
The class voted to help the children feel comfortable who had been separated from families because of family violence, substance abuse and others social issues.
Toys will help them feel more comfortable at this time of year.
The students' parents will provide their time and cooking experience and the students will help welcome everybody.
All proceeds will go toward the Women's Crisis Center, which needs just more than toys all year round.
The Women's Crisis Center provides a home away from home so victims can live in safety.
They need clothes, food, kitchenware, furniture and cash donations.
The crisis center also supports a 24-hour hotline, provides counseling for those in need, provide speakers and workshops to educate the public of the social issues in our community, sponsors a support group, works closely with law officers to obtain protective orders, and have trained therapists who will listen and help victims through their problems.
The Women's Crisis Center does a service to the community and needs community help.
Music will be provided by JP Express DJ Service. So, bring a new toy and help share the holiday spirit for a child in need.
