EAST BERNARD - East Bernard's storybook season came to an end last Friday night after the Brahmas dropped a hard-fought 21-14 decision to Refugio in Region IV quarterfi- nal football game in San Marcos.

"Just the fact that the kids played hard, they over achieved all year long," said EB coach Jerry Long

Only eight seniors dotted this year's roster making for a Brahma team filled with underclassmen.

"I couldn't be more proud of them," added Long. "They kind of raised the level of expectations around here and we had a great year."

"No longer it will be just one and out, now we want to go three or four rounds."

The Bobcats play Rice Consolidated, a 29-28 winner over Stockdale, for the Region IV championship on Friday.

Long said the success will be beneficial to the program.

"This season will help those to come," said Long. "They know it's possible even though we don't have the most talented team."

Long's priority in the offseason is for his players to get stronger.

"We've got to find some kids at certain positions where we're losing seniors," said Long.

"We'll test our kids another week or so to let them stretch their legs a little bit."

Long also credited the community.

"On behalf of myself, my coaching staff and 2007 football team, I want to thank the community, the faculty and the student body for all their support all year."
